Tottenham are hoping to sign top-quality players in the summer once they secure their Premier League status for next season.
Tottenham are hoping to maintain their top-flight status under Igor Tudor this season. The Lilywhites are currently the most out-of-form team in the Premier League, having won just two of their last 18 league matches. They remain stranded in the bottom half of the table, only four points above the relegation zone. It is crucial that the North Londoners avoid relegation if they are to strengthen the squad in the summer.
It is evident that Spurs require urgent reinforcements in the summer if they are to avoid a similar situation next season. The ongoing injury crisis at N17 has severely depleted the squad, making it difficult for Igor Tudor to field a strong starting eleven in recent weeks. The bench has been filled with academy players who are not yet ready to make a significant impact in the top flight, highlighting how understaffed the Spurs squad currently is.
At the same time, long-term injuries to both James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski have deprived the North Londoners of much-needed creativity in midfield. Spurs are in desperate need of a player who can effectively link midfield and attack by operating in the #10 role. They require someone capable of stepping in for both Maddison and Kulusevski while delivering impressive numbers under the new manager.
Tottenham must remain proactive in the summer transfer window. The Lilywhites cannot afford to miss out on their priority targets and must do everything possible to convince players that the club’s long-term project is appealing. The time has come for the Lewis family to back their ambitions financially and sign top-quality players who can make an immediate impact at the North London club next season.
Recent reports have linked Spurs with Aston Villa star Morgan Rogers. The England international has been in excellent form this season, scoring eight goals and providing five assists in the Premier League. He has played a key role in Unai Emery’s title-challenging side, featuring either on the left wing or as a #10. The Lilywhites reportedly view him as a ‘dream’ summer target and believe the 23-year-old could leave Villa if his €70m, asking price is met in the coming months.
Spurs, however, risk falling behind in the race to sign Rogers. As per TEAMtalk, Chelsea are currently leading the pursuit of the England international. The Blues have reportedly presented Rogers with a clear development plan, promising him the consistent game time needed to elevate his performances. The 23-year-old is also believed to favour a move to Stamford Bridge at this stage, as it would offer him the opportunity to compete for major honours regularly.
Signing a player of Morgan Rogers’ calibre was always going to be a difficult task for the Lilywhites. It is fair to acknowledge that Spurs currently do not possess the same pull as some of their rivals, given their disappointing Premier League campaign. As a result, the North Londoners must be prepared to identify alternative targets in the summer as they aim to rebuild and compete at the top end of the league table next season.
