Tottenham Hotspur crashed to a 4-1 defeat against Arsenal in the North London derby yesterday, and manager Igor Tudor has urged his players to look in the mirror and become a serious club once again.
It has been a disappointing season for Spurs so far, and the humiliating defeat against Arsenal will only add to their misery. Tottenham started poorly, and even though they got back into the contest immediately after conceding, they were never really in control.
Arsenal were undoubtedly the better team and the deserved winners in the end.
Igor Tudor said after the game: “Where is our goal? Where is the goal of this club? Where is the goal of this team? Where is the goal of this coach and of these players? And all the staff? To become serious, serious, not just the group of 20 players. You know? And the medicine is you look in the mirror, each of us look in the mirror, and really try and really start to change the habits.”
Tottenham had a glorious opportunity to dent Arsenal’s title hopes with a positive result yesterday, and a win over their bitter rivals would have given them a huge confidence boost as well. They needed a positive result to turn things around and lift the spirits around the club.
Tudor has been brought in to turn things around and help Spurs finish the season strongly. He will be very unhappy with how his tenure as Tottenham manager has started. It remains to be seen whether he can motivate the team to come back stronger in the coming weeks.
There is no doubt that Tottenham have a quality team, and they should be doing a lot better. It remains to be seen whether they can secure a respectable finish in the Premier League table.
