Reports in Italy claim that negotiations between Fenerbahce and Atalanta for Nigeria international Ademola Lookman have ground to a halt and that currently, the deal is unlikely to progress any further.
According to recent updates, Fenerbahce have been pushing to sign Lookman from Atalanta before the close of the January transfer window.
Yesterday’s reports claimed that there was a meeting between representatives from Fenerbahce and Atalanta on Friday, and that the Turkish club were prepared to invest around €40m on the signing of the 28-year-old.
However, according to updates from Gianluca Di Marzio late on Friday night, negotiations between Fenerbahce and Atalanta for Lookman have now come to a ‘definitive’ halt.
There is no agreement in place on payment between the two clubs, nor on the bank guarantees that would be needed for the transfer to go ahead.
Atletico Madrid had also expressed an interest in signing Lookman this month, but it remains to be seen whether Diego Simeone’s side will come back in with a formal offer before the close of the January window.
If Lookman were to stay in Bergamo, Atalanta would be more likely to sanction the exit of Kamaldeen Sulemana, who has been linked with moves to both Roma and Napoli this month.
