Atalanta fans have branded forward Ademola Lookman “Lookmeiners” after he’s become another summer transfer soap opera.
Today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews, report that La Dea’s fans have grown irritated with the 27-year-old’s antics as he pushed for a move to Inter Milan.
Ademola Lookman has not exactly left any doubt as to his intentions this summer.
There was nothing subtle about the Nigerian international scrubbing all mention of Atalanta from his Instagram account. This came after his current employers rejected a bid from Inter worth €45 million.
Moreover, behind the scenes Lookman’s representatives are reportedly pressuring Atalanta into accepting an offer from Inter.
In a certain sense, Atalanta have been here before.
Just twelve months ago, there was an even more drawn-out transfer saga involving midfielder Teun Koopmeiners.
Atalanta did sell Koopmeiners to Juventus in the end. But only in the last few days of the summer transfer window.
In the meantime, the Dutchman had always made his stance about wanting to join the Bianconeri crystal clear.
Therefore, some Atalanta fans have noted an echo of that transfer soap opera in Lookman’s determination to join Inter.
As such, the Gazzetta dello Sport report, Atalanta fans have begun referring to the former Leicester City and Fulham forward as “Lookmeiners” online.
