Luckhurst: What Man Utd star is doing to sway ‘incredible’ target to Old Trafford amid ‘aggressive’ pursuit from rivals

Manchester United are free to add to their ranks once again from today as the transfer window reopens for the summer break.

Already have the Red Devils welcomed highly-rated attacker Matheus Cunha from Wolverhampton Wanderers after agreeing to activate his £62.5 million release clause. A lump sum has been paid upfront to get the deal over the line, while the remaining fee will be settled in instalments across two years.

Now, it’s Bryan Mbeumo who’s taken the top spot on INEOS’ shortlist following a revelation that the ‘incredible’ 25-year-old had given his priority to a move to Old Trafford, despite garnering interest from Arsenal, Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur.

INEOS quick to ignite Bryan Mbeumo pursuit

United were quick to act on the news by submitting a £55m bid to Brentford almost a fortnight ago, although it was subsequently rebuffed for falling below their valuation.

The Reds then saw their free run at Mbeumo threatened when Thomas Frank was appointed head coach of Tottenham Hotspur. He is said to be keen on reuniting with his former talisman in a new environment, prompting concerns in M16 that their target’s mind could be swayed by the prospect of a reunion.

Spurs have yet to test Brentford’s resolve with a formal offer like United have, and, if today’s reports are anything to go by, they may as well not bother.

Andre Onana working to convince compatriot Mbeumo of Old Trafford move

According to Samuel Luckhurst of Manchester Evening News, Mbeumo ‘still favours’ a move to United even whilst the Europa League winners are ‘aggressively pursuing’ his signature.

Ruben Amorim’s first-choice goalkeeper Andre Onana is doing his bit behind the scenes to make the transfer come to fruition by ‘advising’ his compatriot to join him at the Theatre of Dreams this summer. He has ‘played a role in swaying’ his Cameroon teammate.

It still remains to be seen if the key decision-makers will meet the Bees’ costly demands — or manage to find a way to meet in the middle.

Chelsea ready to hand Enzo Maresca shiny new €70m attacking weapon

With Joao Felix’s miraculous exit to Saudi Arabia now almost confirmed, Chelsea are stepping up their chase of an attacking player to come in and fill that gap in the squad. Xavi Simons is the chosen man, and after a weekend where things slowed down, we expect today and tomorrow to be big in terms of getting the deal for the Dutchman with RB Leipzig done. Blues close in on €70m deal For once it’s Alfredo Pedulla and not Fabrizio Romano who is giving us the big update of the day. He wrote on his website that Chelsea are “ready to give Xavi Simons to Enzo Maresca.” After talks last week, the deal looks set to be around €70m in total. That’s a pretty hefty fee – but we expect only the first €60m or so will be a fixed payment, with a lot of bonuses and add-ons likely to feature. Wingers Simons played 33 times for RB Leipzig in the Bundesliga last season, scoring 11 goals. Long considered a player with huge potential, the 22 year old Dutch international now gets his chance to show what he can do in the Premier League. Leipzig lose their star player after missing out on the Champions League places after a poor seaosn. Simons ends up as a perfect option for winger hungry Chelsea Simons is a signing which suits this transfer team down to the ground. Not only does he come in in a position of need in the squad after the departures of Felix and Noni Madueke this summer, he also has the right age profile and doesn’t require vast wages. He’s got a high ceiling and could present both a short and long term upgrade on our options in that part of the pitch.

Ex-Lakers Big Man Ready to Cut NBA Ties With New Contract

It was the Lakers who, eight years ago, gave center Thomas Bryant his first crack at the NBA, putting him into the lineup after acquiring him in a draft trade with the Jazz. Bryant's Lakers career did not last that long--he was gone after one season--but he came back to L.A. in the summer of 2022 after a successful stint with the Wizards. That go-round with the Lakers did not go much better than the first, as Bryant averaged 12.3 points but was traded away in a massive deal at the 2023 deadline that saw the Lakers add Mo Bamba and Davon Reed. The Lakers had two cracks at Bryant but were not able to get his best from him. Bryant has since moved on to Denver, Miami and most recently, Indiana, where he has not been a big-time scorer, but has filled a role nicely in each of his stops. But, unable to drum up a new NBA contract, it looks like Bryant's next role will come overseas. That's according to a report from Telesport, which noted that the Greek team Panathinaikos is in direct contact about getting Bryant signed. From Sportando, which points out that Jonas Valanciunas agreed to, then backed out of a contract with the team: "The American center, born in 1997, played last season with the Indiana Pacers. He has appeared in 333 NBA games throughout his career. It would be a high-level addition for Panathinaikos, who, after the breakdown of negotiations with Valanciunas, are looking for a center to further raise the quality of their frontcourt."

Rangers Sign Former Stanley Cup Champion to Tryout Agreement

The New York Rangers are adding to their forward depth ahead of their upcoming training camp. The Rangers are entering a new chapter of their organization under new head coach Mike Sullivan. After missing the postseason last year, the organization is trying to rebound and respond accordingly in 2025 and 2026. Former Stanley Cup champion forward Conor Sheary is the latest player to join the new-look Rangers. The veteran forward agreed to a professional tryout agreement (PTO) with the club and will look to earn an NHL deal with his performance in training camp and the preseason. Sheary is a veteran of 593 NHL games. Originally an undrafted free agent, he signed with the Pittsburgh Penguins after completing his collegiate career. Following a year with the Penguins' AHL affiliate, he forced his way onto the NHL squad after posting 36 points in his first 30 games of the 2015-2016 season at the AHL level. His debut NHL season went better than ever expected, and he was a key part of the Penguins' lineup that won back-to-back Stanley Cups in 2016 and 2017. Sheary's coach at the time, both at the AHL and NHL levels, was Mike Sullivan. Now, he'll get the chance to reunite with the coach under whom he won two championships. In addition to playing for the Penguins, Sheary has played for three other NHL franchises. The Pens dealt him to the Buffalo Sabres before the 2018-2019 campaign, but he would return to Pittsburgh the following season at the trade deadline. After his second stint with the Penguins, he joined the Washington Capitals. He played three seasons in Washington, D.C. before landing with the Tampa Bay Lightning, where he spent the past two years. Over his 593 career games, he's compiled 124 goals and 143 assists for 267 points. His best NHL season came during the 2016-2017 campaign, his second in the league. He scored 23 goals and added 30 assists for 53 points in 61 regular-season games.

Important trade stalls as Maple Leafs dangle bottom-six forward

The Toronto Maple Leafs are still looking for a solution to their bottom-six surplus, and veteran forward Calle Jarnkrok remains at the center of trade discussions. However, according to The Fourth Period, trade talks surrounding the 33-year-old winger have failed to gain momentum. They write: “He has a $2.1M cap hit and owns a 10-team no-trade list. The market hasn’t been vibrant, to this point, but the Leafs will continue to dangle him.” Why can’t the Maple Leafs find a taker for Jarnkrok? Jarnkrok has quietly been on the trade block for much of the offseason, but general manager Brad Treliving has yet to find a taker. After adding several depth forwards this summer, the Leafs now face a crowded bottom six — and Jarnkrok’s age, injury history and $2.1M cap hit through 2025–26 aren’t helping his value. Since joining Toronto, Jarnkrok has appeared in only 71 games over two seasons, scoring a modest 28 points. While his defensive versatility and penalty-killing ability are assets, his declining offensive production and durability concerns have made teams wary. With training camp approaching, the Maple Leafs may be forced to keep Jarnkrok on the roster — or retain salary in a deal — if they want to create space and flexibility. Dropping his cap hit down to just over $1M would open up the market a little. Until then, the Swedish forward remains a trade candidate in limbo. This isn’t great news as moving Jarnkrok from the roster is an important item on the team’s to-do list. Treliving would like more cap space, and with Jarnkrok and David Kampf both still on the roster, it hampers the GM’s ability to do other things.
