The job security of Xavi Hernandez at FC Barcelona is back in the spotlight after reports in the last few days suggested that the Catalan side could sack the Spanish tactician once the season is over.

Last month, Xavi announced that he’ll be staying in charge for the next season, honoring his contract that extends until 2025. This decision comes after he previously expressed his plan to step down at the end of the current campaign.

Xavi’s comments on Wednesday, addressing the financial challenges impacting Barça’s ability to compete and secure trophies, have stirred tension with club president Joan Laporta.

On Saturday, Paris Saint-Germain manager Luis Enrique spoke with reporters and they asked the Spanish tactician his take regarding what’s transpiring at Barcelona.

“I don’t know,” Enrique said (h/t Paris Fans). “I don’t answer. I’m obsessed with French TV. I watch everything in French, and I don’t know what’s going on outside.

Barcelona was reportedly in the mix for Enrique until the announcement that Xavi would continue. The 54-year-old could receive an extension after an impressive first season in the French capital.
