The legendary Luis Figo backs his former club Inter Milan to go all the way in the Champions League, considering them one of the favourites for the trophy.
The Nerazzurri were one of the most impressive sides in the group stage. They finished fourth, only behind Liverpool, Barcelona and Arsenal. Hence, many sports betting enthusiasts have flocked to Inter’s cause, placing wagers on Inter to win their 4th UCL time on the best Irish online betting sites as identified by Irishluck.
The reigning Italian champions only conceded one goal throughout their fabulous group-stage run. This means they managed to preserve seven clean sheets in eight outings. This includes their stalemate away to Man Cityand their memorable victory at home over Arsenal.
Therefore, Figo wouldn’t be surprised to see his former employers going all the way to win the title.
Inter reached the final of the 2022/23 edition but fell just short against Pep Guardiola’s Man City in Istanbul.
The last time the Beneamata lifted the big-ear trophy dates back to 2010. That was the glorious campaign when they ended up securing the historic treble under the guidance of Jose Mourinho.
Nevertheless, Figo believes Simone Inzaghi has what it takes to replicate the feats of the Special One.
“Inter are doing great things in recent years,” noted the former Barcelona and Real Madrid winger in his interview with Sky Sport Italia via FcInterNews.
“They have a solid structure and a team that works well. We hope they can go all the way in the Champions League.
“I think they have the chance to win. I consider them one of the favourites. Who knows, maybe they can repeat the final in Madrid on 22nd May 2010.”
Figo joined Inter in the summer of 2005 following his legendary and equally controversial time in Spain which included an earth-shattering transfer from Barcelona to Real Madrid.
The Ballon d’Or winner won four Scudetto medals during his time with the Nerazzurri. But sadly for the Portuguese, he missed out on the Champions League trophy, as he had retired from football in the previous summer (2009).
In the meantime, Inter are waiting to find out the identity of their next European opponent. They will face either the winner between Juventus and PSV Eindhoven, or whoever prevails between AC Milan and Feyenoord.
