Bruno Fernandes emerged as Manchester United’s talisman almost instantly after he joined the club in January 2020. The former Sporting captain immediately became a fan-favourite at Old Trafford and has been the first name on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s teamsheet for nearly two years.

Fernandes was linked with a move to Manchester United back in 2019 but a transfer never materialised, with reports of interest from Manchester City and Tottenham also prominent.

Former Manchester United star Luis Nani, who spent the 2018-19 season alongside Fernandes at Sporting, has now revealed that he urged his countryman to reject any other interested parties in favour of a move to Old Trafford.

“I was the first one to tell him he should go to England and if he decides to go to England, if he can choose Man United it would be the best thing for him,” Nani told The Athletic.

“That was funny because a couple of months later when I went to Orlando I saw the news and I texted him because I was seeing Man City and Man United and Tottenham were fighting for him and I said, ‘If you have to go, you choose Man United! It’s the best!'”
