Romelu Lukaku reveals the moment he realised Antonio Conte and Napoli could win the Scudetto this season, then smiles when asked if he spoke to Kevin De Bruyne. ‘No comment.’

The Partenopei went into the final round of the Serie A campaign only one point clear of Inter, so when news came through that the Nerazzurri were winning away to Como, the pressure was on.

Scott McTominay put them in front against Cagliari, with Lukaku scoring the second goal to make sure.

Lukaku relishing Napoli title triumph

“I am feeling so many emotions right now. I am moved for the team and these players, we worked so hard, but we did it and that’s the important thing,” Lukaku told DAZN.

The striker has an extraordinary record when working with Conte, scoring 78 goals and providing 27 assists in 133 games together.

“We all won, I was just a small part of this team. We thought only about the team, everyone was important, whether they played regularly or not, that is how we took it home.”

During stoppages and with a 2-0 lead, Lukaku was on the bench telling everyone to delay the Scudetto celebration, revealing what made him so pessimistic.

“I told the lads we had to wait, because when I was a kid, I watched the Champions League Final when Manchester United beat Bayern Munich. Since then, I learned it’s never over until the referee blows the whistle,” said the Belgian.

In that match, Bayern Munich were leading 1-0 until stoppages, when Manchester United scored twice totally against the run of play to win 2-1 and lift the trophy.

“I knew what the coach was capable of and thought from the start we could do something important. We proved our maturity, showed improvement, and after the game at home to Inter, I thought we really do have a big chance of winning.”

Napoli are looking to bring in free agent De Bruyne after the end of his contract with Manchester City. Considering they are teammates in the Belgium squad, has he spoken to the midfielder?

“No comment,” grinned Lukaku.
