On Friday, Paris Saint-Germain forward Kylian Mbappé announced that he’ll be leaving the club after this season, with his contract expiring next month. The Frenchman will be joining Real Madrid this summer, and as a result, his availability for the summer Olympics is in doubt.

Real Madrid won’t make any of its players available for the Olympics in Paris, which means Mbappé won’t be able to win a gold medal in his hometown. One person pleaded for the Spanish giants to let the 25-year-old participate.

Emmanuel Macron has basically confirmed Mbappé’s move to Real Madrid while also pleading with the club to let the 2018 FIFA World Cup winner participate in the Olympics. The French President is eager for the country’s top player to represent Les Bleus in the upcoming Paris Games this summer.

“I am counting on Real Madrid to release Kylian for the Olympic games so that he can come and play with the French team,” Macron said (h/t talkSPORT).

Macron is probably hoping that a direct message to the Champions League finalists will help change their mind. Nonetheless, it will be interesting to see how this mini-saga transpires since playing in the Olympics would affect Mbappé’s pre-season preparations at his new club.
