Maeda Speaks on Future Plans Amid Transfer Links and Career-High Season

The 27-year-old enjoyed a breakout season for the Bhoys, notching a career-best 33 goals across all competitions. His performances have drawn attention from several top clubs, including Tottenham Hotspur, Leeds United, and Fenerbahce, with Turkish media reporting that Jose Mourinho has identified Maeda as a “top target” for his new club.

Despite the speculation, Maeda appears focused on continuing his success in Glasgow. Speaking to Japanese media, and reported by the Daily Record, he reflected on his standout campaign and voiced a desire to maintain that momentum with Celtic. “I was in great form both personally and with the team. I’d like to keep it up next season,” he said.

Maeda’s Champions League exploits also made headlines. He became the highest-scoring Celtic player in the competition since Joe Craig in 1977/78, netting four goals on Europe’s biggest stage. That, combined with his haul at Scotland’s Player of the Year awards, has only intensified speculation around his future.

Yet, the Japanese international remains grounded, giving credit to those around him.

“I’m who I am because of my team. I’d like to thank my teammates and, above all, my family for supporting me so far,” he added.

Reflecting on his journey from Mito HollyHock to the Champions League, Maeda spoke about the development of his relentless playing style.

“My forte is sprinting multiple times during a match and running for 90 minutes straight,” he explained. “I came to Mito and learned about not wanting to lose games.”

Celtic are reportedly unwilling to entertain low-ball offers, with the club valuing Maeda at over £25 million, a figure that would surpass their current record sale, set by Matt O’Riley’s move to Brighton last summer.

For now, though, Maeda’s words suggest a strong inclination to stay put, continuing to shine in green and white — at least for one more season.
