Celtic loanee Maik Nawrocki has suffered another setback during his spell with Hannover…

The centre-back had been impressing in Germany’s second division, even winning over supporters by netting the decisive goal in a derby clash against Eintracht Braunschweig.

Earlier last week, Nawrocki spoke openly about his future, suggesting he has enjoyed being back closer to Poland and closer to his family, while also hinting he hasn’t missed life in Scotland.

However, his recurring injury problems continue to cast a shadow. He endured similar frustrations during his time at Celtic under Brendan Rodgers, and this latest issue adds to a growing list of setbacks he has experienced in his career.

Hannover boosted their promotion push with a 2-0 victory over Darmstadt at the weekend, but the result was overshadowed by Nawrocki’s injury.

The Hoops defender required treatment early in the second half before being forced off and replaced by Virgil Ghita.

It marks his fourth spell on the sidelines this season, interrupting what had been a promising run of form in 2026.

He missed a few weeks earlier in the season with a back issue, while tendonitis and muscle problems delayed his debut and caused further absences later last year.

Hannover have the option to make the move permanent for around £2 million, though his injury history could complicate any decision. Celtic paid significantly more to bring him in from Legia Warsaw in 2023.

During his time at Celtic, Nawrocki struggled for regular opportunities under Rodgers, making only a limited number of starts as others were preferred in defence.

Elsewhere, several other Celtic loanees are experiencing mixed fortunes. Shin Yamada has found game time hard to come by at Prussia Munster, while Hayato Inamura is featuring regularly for FC Tokyo.

Luis Palma’s future remains uncertain amid contrasting comments about his long-term plans, whereas Johnny Kenny is playing week in week out at Bolton. Meanwhile, Stephen Welsh featured in Motherwell’s 3-1 defeat at Tynecastle over the weekend.
