Paolo Maldini has hit out at the censorship of his recent tell-all interview, with his lawyer warning of ‘any action to protect’ the former Milan director.

Last week, the legendary ex-defender gave a long interview to journalist Alessandro Alciato on Radio Serie A, the official radio channel of the Italian topflight, where he opened up about his playing career, his time as a director and acrimonious exit from his beloved club.

The following day, Alciato made it clear that he was ‘pressured’ not to air the tell-all interview with Maldini, sharing his unhappiness at the situation. The former defender’s bitter exit from Milan last year caused serious tensions between the fans and the club’s new owners RedBird.

Maldini ‘censorship’

Via ANSA, Maldini and his lawyer Danilo Buongiorno released a statement hitting out at the censorship of this interview, warning of possible legal action.

“In light of the well-known censorship of his interview on Radio Serie A (i.e. Radio Official TV of the Serie A football league) of last May 9th, announces that he has already appointed ‘his defender’ to protect himself from such serious behaviour, unjustly suffered.

“The lawyer Danilo Buongiorno, in the name and on behalf of Mr. Paolo Maldini, warns anyone from repeating such behaviour and reserves, if necessary, any action to protect his client; and in defence of the fundamental right of freedom of expression.”

Maldini made it clear that he doesn’t follow Milan anymore following his exit, not even attending matches at San Siro.
