Man City defender John Stones says that Inter Milan were a “superpower” in the 2023 Champions League final, and still are.
The 31-year-old spoke to Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport in an interview in today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews.
Inter Milan and Manchester City faced off in the 2023 Champions League final.
Going into that match, there was no doubt that nearly everyone viewed Inter as major underdogs.
The Nerazzurri had done very well to reach that final. They saw off the likes of Barcelona, Porto, Benfica, and AC Milan.
However, there was admittedly a sense that Inter had benefited from a relatively easy path to the final.
Furthermore, Inter’s league form in the 2022-23 season was all over the place.
However, the Nerazzurri were more than a match for City.
Inter went toe-to-toe, largely restricting the Premier League juggernauts from creating chances.
And at the other hand, Inter had a slew of very good chances to equalize.
And Manchester City defender John Stones, who started that match, note that “Many thought it would be easy.”
“But Inter were, and are, a superpower,” he continued.
“And they proved that by getting back to the final this season.”
