In a few weeks, Paris Saint-Germain’s Kylian Mbappé is set to join Real Madrid. One former believes that if he were in charge of the La Liga team, the Frenchman wouldn’t be joining them.

Though there’s no set date for the 25-year-old’s official unveiling as a Real Madrid player, Paris Saint-Germain is preparing to bid farewell to Mbappé following their Coupe de France final against Olympique Lyonnais.

Despite Mbappé’s looming arrival, one former player believes that Real Madrid should’ve prioritized pursuing a midfielder rather than an attacker even with the links to the Frenchman and Erling Haaland.

“If I had an unlimited budget, I would not sign Haaland or Mbappé, but Rodrigo,” former Real Betis standout Benjamín Zarandona told Diario AS. “Maybe it’s not as spectacular as others, but it’s a scandal how he moves City and the importance he has in the game.”

Real Madrid does have to address its midfield following Toni Kroos’ retirement. Nonetheless, a recent report from Diario AS reveals that Joshua Kimmich, along with Rodrigo, is a name on Real Madrid’s radar after Kroos’ retirement announcement this week, which will occur following UEFA Euro 2024.

The Spanish giants probably do want to address their new hole in the midfield, but will they have the funds this summer? It will be interesting to see.
