Manchester United’s search for a new striker looks set to stretch into the final days of the transfer window, with Ruben Amorim preparing to start the season without a fresh option up front.

The Red Devils secured Bryan Mbeumo’s long-awaited transfer from Brentford earlier this week. The Cameroonian attacker, known for his steady Premier League goal tally, is expected to strengthen Ruben Amorim’s squad.

However, the Daily Mail have reported that Manchester United are now bracing themselves for the possibility of starting the season without adding a new centre-forward to their ranks.

The need to offload players before making further additions remains clear, though one name continues to be linked with Old Trafford.

Benjamin Sesko could leave RB Leipzig

Manchester United have maintained a long-standing interest in Benjamin Sesko, though the striker has turned them down before. Back in 2022, Sesko opted for RB Leipzig over a move to Old Trafford.

The following year, United reached out again but he chose to remain with Leipzig for another season.

Red Devils’ director of recruitment Christopher Vivell now appears keen to revisit the pursuit of Sesko, having played a role in his earlier moves within the Red Bull system.

With Arsenal closing in on Viktor Gyokeres and no longer in the mix, Sesko has become an even more prominent target for United.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Sesko has a gentleman’s agreement with Leipzig that allows him to leave under certain conditions. The reported fee is between €70m and €80m (£61m to £70m), plus an additional €5m to €10m (£4.35m to £8.7m).

The agreement reportedly only applies to clubs that Sesko views as ‘special’, possibly based on a pre-agreed list from when he chose to stay at Leipzig last year.

It remains uncertain if Manchester United are included in that group, but Vivell will be working behind the scenes to clarify whether Old Trafford is a viable destination.

Newcastle United make a move for Benjamin Sesko

There’s even a chance Sesko could feature against United in the upcoming season.

Newcastle may be forced to replace Alexander Isak, with Liverpool reportedly considering a record-breaking bid for the forward.

The Magpies are already looking at potential replacements, and Sesko is on their shortlist.

David Ornstein of The Athletic reports that Newcastle have started exploring a move for Sesko.

While the financial side of the deal is described as ‘challenging’, an Isak sale would provide significant funds to work with.

United are likely to keep tabs on the situation, hoping there’s still an opportunity to bring Sesko to Old Trafford later in the window.
