Manchester United are having trouble moving Alejandro Garnacho on this summer following his falling out with Ruben Amorim.
The Europa League final capped off a hugely disappointing season for Manchester United, and it also marked the end of Alejandro Garnacho’s time at Old Trafford.
Ruben Amorim decided to part ways with Garnacho after hearing what the forward had to say following the defeat. Reports suggest the manager told him, “You better pray that you can find a club to sign you.”
Garnacho hit out at Amorim’s team selection and slammed United for “not beating anyone” in the Premier League.
The 19-year-old wasn’t invited back for pre-season training and is now part of a group at Carrington being kept away from first-team activities.
Back in December, Amorim dropped Garnacho for the Manchester derby at the same time as Marcus Rashford was frozen out.
Unlike Rashford, Garnacho did make a comeback to rejoin the squad but there were strong links that he could have been sold in January.
Chelsea were reportedly interested during the winter window, with United valuing him at around £60m.
The winger was said to be open to a move to Stamford Bridge as he wanted to stay in the Premier League, but nothing materialised.
United are still looking for buyers this summer, but Ineos look unlikely to recoup anything close to that figure now.
The club’s transfer business has also hit a snag over Bryan Mbeumo. Brentford want £70m for their forward and Ineos aren’t willing to meet that price. Had Garnacho been sold earlier in the year, United might have had more room financially from the start of this window.
Garnacho hasn’t changed his mind since January and still prefers to remain in the Premier League.
Chelsea could still be an option, but the Blues haven’t resumed talks with United since their initial discussions earlier this year.
There’s been talk of a possible swap deal involving Nicolas Jackson, while Aston Villa have also expressed interest.
Garnacho was seen wearing a Villa shirt over the summer, which didn’t sit well with United supporters. It now looks like he might follow Marcus Rashford by heading to Birmingham.
United are interested in Emiliano Martinez, so there are also opportunities for Garnacho to be used in a potential exchange deal for the World Cup winner.
