Man Utd and Chelsea dispute claims they approached Jurgen Klopp after Liverpool exit

Since leaving Liverpool, Jurgen Klopp has been making the most of his break from football management, taking some time to relax away from the touchline.

This week, he was seen ringing the bell at the Winter Olympics, continuing to enjoy life without the demands of daily training and matches.

Despite his intention to step away from management following his 2024 departure from Liverpool, Klopp has still found himself linked to several high-profile jobs.

Recent reports have suggested he could be in line for one of the vacant roles at either Chelsea or Manchester United. There were even claims that both clubs had reached out to his representatives over a possible return.

But according to Fabrizio Romano, both clubs have now denied those rumours.

In a recent update on his YouTube channel, Romano said he has spoken directly with both clubs regarding the speculation.

According to him, while both clubs respect what Klopp has achieved, neither made any formal move to bring him in.

Romano explained: “When contacted, both clubs – Manchester United and Chelsea – are playing down those reports, saying that nothing really happened with Jurgen Klopp apart from the admiration they have for one of the best managers in the world.”

“Both clubs absolutely announce that they never had any advanced or concrete negotiations to appoint Jurgen Klopp.”

Chelsea have already filled their managerial vacancy by hiring Liam Rosenior. But with United still searching for their next manager, it wouldn’t be a surprise if talk about Klopp resurfaces later in the summer.

Jurgen Klopp has also been linked to Real Madrid

Real Madrid are another club who could be looking for a permanent manager this summer, having brought in former Liverpool defender Alvaro Arbeloa as an interim coach. Despite the speculation, Romano says there’s nothing developing between Klopp and the Spanish club.

“On the future of Jurgen Klopp, don’t forget that he’s still very busy with the Red Bull project, still focused on that,” he said.

“With Real Madrid, I keep telling you guys, let’s see what happens with Arbeloa because he’s doing a very good job now. Second step, Jurgen Klopp has some people in the Real Madrid board appreciating him a lot, but at the moment I’m not aware of concrete talks. That’s the status as of today.”

Klopp remains one of football’s most respected figures and could likely walk into any role he wanted. But so far, he’s kept to his word about taking time away from coaching.
