Alejandro Garnacho wants to join a Premier League rival as Manchester United prepare to drop the price to sell him. The 20-year-old attacker established himself as a first-team regular in recent seasons after enjoying a breakthrough under Erik ten Hag.
However, United sacked Ten Hag and appointed Ruben Amorim, who remained unimpressed with Garnacho’s influence and contribution to the team. The Argentina international has struggled with consistency as a starter, with the Red Devils’ collective form playing a mitigating factor.
United finished 15th in the Premier League last season and also lost the Europa League final to rivals Tottenham Hotspur. Amorim opted to bench Garnacho during the Europa League final, leading to an unpleasant public dispute between the two parties.
Right after the spat, Garnacho dominated the news cycle, linked with several clubs, including the Saudi Pro League club Al-Nassr. According to GiveMeSport, Garnacho has decided to stay in the Premier League, preferring to join a United rival this summer.
Furthermore, United started the summer with an original £70m demand for Garnacho but are not ready to sell for £40m. The Red Devils cannot afford to waste time on their outgoing players who are not part of Amorim’s United plan.
United have a lot of recruitment to complete before the start of the next season, as there are many vulnerabilities. Amorim uses vastly different tactics compared to Ten Hag, resulting in such drastic changes to the senior team he inherited.
At the same time, United would prefer to keep youth players like Garnacho in an ideal situation, continuing their tradition. The Red Devils have enjoyed great success, particularly under Sir Alex Ferguson, by nurturing and keeping their quality academy players.
However, Garnacho’s behaviour and poor relationship with Amorim have made him a vastly different case compared to past academy players. Furthermore, the Red Devils are facing a financial strain to balance their purchase with a healthy amount of sales. Garnacho is one of the players who could leave for a decent price due to his age and experience.
