Manchester United are unlikely to make any major moves in the transfer window, with loan deals looking like Michael Carrick’s main business.

Manchester United’s January transfer plans remain understated, with outgoing loans likely to be the primary focus under Michael Carrick. Rather than major additions, the club is concentrating on player development and creating pathways for young talent to gain senior experience.

United’s loan strategy has already delivered encouraging signs this season. Harry Amass made a strong impression during his spell at Sheffield Wednesday, and although he has since returned to Carrington, another temporary move is expected before the window closes. He is unlikely to be the only youngster heading out.

Tyler Fredricson lined up for January loan

Another academy product, Tyler Fredricson, is now attracting attention ahead of a potential loan exit. After a promising end to last season that included a senior debut for Manchester United, the current campaign has proved far more difficult for the defender.

Fredricson struggled during the defeat at Grimsby, was withdrawn at half-time, and has since managed only two minutes of first-team action. With limited prospects in a back-four system and effectively sixth-choice in his position, opportunities have been scarce. According to The Athletic, clubs from across the EFL as well as top divisions in Europe have registered interest, with United open to loan proposals that would provide regular football and aid his development.

Further academy departures expected this month

Fredricson is not expected to be the only academy graduate to leave on loan. Striker Ethan Wheatley is reportedly close to joining Bradford City for the remainder of the season, as he looks to reignite his progress after mixed loan experiences.

Midfielder Toby Collyer is also set for a move, with a switch to Hull City expected following the termination of his loan at West Bromwich Albion. Amass is likewise anticipated to head out again, with Stoke City among the interested clubs, as United continue to prioritise carefully selected loan spells for their emerging talent.
