Now a report from Sky Sports states that United have opened talks with Ipswich Town boss Kieran McKenna.
The club's former assistant is one of several candidates for the job, according to other British media sources.
Those names include Mauricio Pochettino, Thomas Frank, Thomas Tuchel, and Gareth Southgate.
United play in the FA Cup final on Saturday against Manchester City to round off their season.
