Bruno Fernandes’ time at Manchester United looks set to end in 2026, but exactly how it happens is still up in the air.

The midfielder has been outstanding again this season, yet speculation keeps building that he’s entering his final year at Old Trafford.

With Casemiro already confirmed to be leaving in June, losing Fernandes as well would create a massive void both on the pitch and behind the scenes. It’s not just about replacing his ability – it’s also about what he brings as a leader.

Ineos are under pressure to turn United back into title contenders if they want to keep him. His £57 million release clause means there will be no shortage of interest if he becomes available.

Bruno Fernandes’ interview late last year had fans wondering whether he might be preparing to leave the club in 2026.

While most supporters wouldn’t want to see him go, the discussion has led to Cole Palmer being mentioned as a possible successor, though he’s not quite at that level yet.

Now, Ben Jacobs has reported on talkSPORT that Fernandes is among 50 names being considered by the Saudi Pro League for moves in 2026. Three clubs are said to be interested, including Al-Ittihad, and his release clause looks like good value given how much he still offers.

Despite all this talk, reports from inside Old Trafford suggest United are determined to keep hold of him. He’s still seen as a key part of their future plans.

The Portugal international was close to making the move last summer before backing out and will face a similar decision again after this year’s World Cup.

Manchester United may not rule out a new contract for Bruno Fernandes

Bruno Fernandes has become the most important player at Manchester United since Sir Alex Ferguson, and it won’t be easy to find someone who can fill his shoes.

Even with a £57m release clause, selling him now wouldn’t make sense given how much he means to the side. There isn’t anyone out there who could step in and do what he does.

At 31, Fernandes still looks as sharp as ever. If anything, his game seems to be getting even stronger. He has shown no signs of slowing down yet.

His current deal runs until 2027, with an option for another year after that. By then, he’ll only be 33 and could still be performing at a high level.

No one else at United offers the same level of creativity or influence on and off the pitch. Letting him go would be a massive call and not one to take lightly.
