Manchester City look set to bolster their midfield in a big way this summer. Esteemed Kompany sources revealed earlier this week that City were confident of sealing a deal for AC Milan’s star midfield Tijjani Reijnders. That was even though they would face competition to sign the Dutch international.

In an ideal world, Manchester City would complete a significant chunk of their transfer business ahead of the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup. That would allow Pep Guardiola to integrate City’s new signings into his squad in the United States. That may be crucial given the fact that Pep Guardiola’s side will have an interrupted pre-season.

Manchester City seem intent on signing Tijjani Reijnders ahead of the Club World Cup.

A report on Milan News indicates that Manchester City could be set to offer AC Milan €70 million to sign Tijjani Reijnders. Furthermore, the Milan News report indicates that City are intent on signing Reijnders ahead of the FIFA Club World Cup. That way, the Dutch international could be a part of the City squad for the tournament.

It would be good business for City if they can get new signings in ahead of the FIFA Club World Cup.

The one area Manchester City are desperate to strengthen this summer is their midfield. It’s simply an area of Pep Guardiola’s squad that must be reinforced. Also, it’s typically been an area of the pitch where new signings need time to learn the demands of Pep Guardiola. Recently, we have seen that with Nico. Nico has shown flashes of what he is capable of at Manchester City. But he has also shown that he will need time to grow into his role at City. That has been the case for Rodri, Bernardo Silva and others. It’s almost a rite of passage for midfielders at City.

The quicker Manchester City can conclude a deal for Tijjani Reijnders, the better it is for them and the player. That way, he can play at the FIFA Club World Cup and also get a head start at life under Pep Guardiola. In an ideal world, that will be what happens this summer. Of course, nothing in the transfer market happens in an ideal manner. So while City may want to sign Reijnders or any other transfer target ahead of the Club World Cup, it remains to be seen if they can achieve this goal. But if they can that would go a long way helping Manchester City’s cause for the 25/26 season.
