Manchester City consider triggering Antoine Semenyo release clause

Ruben Amorim looks to strengthen his attacking options for the second half of the season, with several players being linked with a move to Old Trafford.

The lack of consistent width and direct ball-carrying threat has been a recurring issue for United.

Especially with Bryan Mbeumo and Amad Diallo, and Benjamin Šeško unavailable through injury spells.

United’s analytics department has highlighted the need for a forward who can progress the ball, carry in transition, and contribute goals from both wide and central zones.

The club has already explored several market options, including Karim Adeyemi and Antoine Semenyo from Borussia Dortmund and AFC Bournemouth, respectively.

Antoine Semenyo has emerged as a high-priority target for United due to his Premier League efficiency, versatility across the front line, and rapid improvement under Andoni Iraola at Bournemouth.

Semenyo joined Bournemouth from Bristol City for £10 million in January 2023 and has rapidly developed into one of the Premier League’s most dangerous attackers.

The Ghanaian international has scored six goals and registered three assists in 12 Premier League matches this season, placing him among the league’s most effective wide forwards.

United see Semenyo as an ideal fit for Amorim’s pressing structure due to his work rate, recoveries, and ability to break defensive lines with carries rather than relying solely on service.

He can naturally operate as a right winger, left winger, or even as a second striker — profiles United lack depth in despite the arrival of Mbeumo and Cunha.

According to the Times, Manchester City are also monitoring Semenyo closely and are prepared to trigger his £65 million release clause.

United understand that waiting until the summer risks losing the player, but triggering his clause in January would require accelerated outgoing movements.

Amorim is pushing for at least one dynamic attacker this winter, and Semenyo’s explosiveness, Premier League-proven output, and age profile make him the most realistic high-impact addition available
