As the 25/26 season began, the right-back position did appear to be a major concern for Manchester City. Matheus Nunes and Rico Lewis looked set to battle out to be City’s first-choice right-back. But the rise of Abdukodir Khusanov has seen the Uzbekistan international seemingly become the ideal player to slot in at right-back for Pep Guardiola’s side. Khusanov played well against Manchester United, Napoli and Arsenal playing at right-back. Unfortunately, injury struck, which has kept Khusanov off the pitch.

Now a new report indicates that Atletico Madrid’s World Cup winner, Nahuel Molina, is looming as a potential target for Manchester City. Molina, who can play at right-back or in midfield, is a player with the pedigree to add to Pep Guardiola’s squad. It remains to be seen if City will be in the market for a right-back, but if they are, Nahuel Molina could immediately step into the City squad and contribute if it were a move that City were to pursue.

Manchester City are reportedly interested in signing Nahuel Molina to add cover at right-back.

Dean Jones has reported for TeamTalk, that Manchester City will look to sign a right-back during the January transfer window. Furthermore, Jones reports that Nahuel Molina is a player that City views as one who could come into Pep Guardiola’s squad and add experience and quality to the right-back position. Dean Jones also reports that Nahuel Molina only has just over 18 months left on his current contract with Atletico Madrid. He could be a viable option for Manchester City if they do decide to pursue a right-back in a few months.

A player like Nahuel Molina would add quality and pedigree to Pep Guardiola’s squad.

It remains to be seen if Manchester City will be in the market for a right-back during the January transfer window. Abdukodir Khusanov has made a strong impression playing the position. Matheus Nunes is a strong squad option for Pep Guardiola to utilise. Rico Lewis looks poised to move into midfield, and John Stones can play at right-back if required. There are options in Pep Guardiola’s squad to use at right-back. But if they want an experienced player who could do a role straight away, Nahuel Molina could be that player.

Nahuel Molina is 27 years of age and remains in the prime years of his career. He has been frozen out this season by Diego Simeone. But at his best, Nahuel Molina is a good option at right-back. He is technically gifted and can play a wide variety of passes. Molina gets up and down the pitch well and he can play as an overlapping full-back or he can invert into midfield if required. He is competent defensively and when looking at the right-back options which could be available in January, Nahuel Molina is a quality option.

Nahuel Molina ticks nearly every box required to play for Manchester City. If City do pursue a right-back in January there is a strong case to sign the World Cup winner from Atletico Madrid. It now remains to be seen if it is a move they pursue during the January transfer window.
