Manchester City are all set to sign Elliot Anderson after The Citizens have finally agreed terms with Nottingham Forest for the midfielder’s transfer fee.
City emerged as front-runners earlier this year after Manchester United looked set to sign him as their priority midfield target, however we’re priced out of the market.
Last summer Forest had valued Anderson at £120 million and The Tricky Trees were determined to see his sale break the British transfer record of £125 million which saw Alexander Isak move from Newcastle to Liverpool.
As such, with United having a budget of £150 million for three midfielders, The Red Devils cooled their interest in Elliot Anderson, seeing City step in.
Now, Fabrizio Romano has reported the deal is done for £116 million with no add-ons, and the signing won’t be held up too much by the World Cup.
While this doesn’t match the fee paid for Isak, it does break the record for the highest fee ever paid for a British player, previously held by Jack Grealish thanks to his £100 million move to City from Aston Villa in 2021.
With Elliot Anderson out on international duty for the England squad in the 2026 World Cup, there has been a risk that no move could take place until after the tournament ends.
However, Thomas Tuchel had already announced that he was happy for medical assessments to happen in the States during the tournament as long as they don’t interfere with game preparations.
As such, Anderson is all set to have his medical this weekend in the USA, allowing for the deal to move forward.
