Manchester United are obviously going to be major players in the January and summer transfer markets next year when it comes to stockpiling midfield talent, because they just might have the worst midfield of any top club in the English top flight.
Young Premier League stars Carlos Baleba and Adam Wharton have long been atop the Man United transfer wishlist, and with his hot start to the 2025/26 season, newly minted Nottingham Forest breakout star Elliot Anderson is also high on Ruben Amorim’s shopping list.
He’s not the only young Premier League breakout star in the middle of the park that Manchester United are tracking, though, as they’ve also quietly plucked another off the shelf.
According to TBR Football transfer insider Graeme Bailey, Manchester United are now joining the likes of Tottenham Hotspur with serious interest in 22-year-old Bournemouth standout Alex Scott:
“Alex Scott is emerging as a real name now and United are well aware of his talents. I am told they watched him and liked him during his Bristol City days, but now he is maturing into a dominant player. We know all the big names linked to United heading into the New Year and ahead of next summer, but keep an eye on Scott – he is a possibility for a number of clubs and that includes United.”
Like Tottenham, Manchester United were interested in Scott in the past, but now that he is proving himself in the Premier League and shining for a Bournemouth team with a serious shot at qualifying for European football, the men at Old Trafford have their ears perked up.
Scott is a fighter in midfield who draws fouls, wins possession, and passes the ball accurately. In conjunction with one of the biggest names on the market, he could be a great signing for a below average Man United midfield.
