Dortmund had a "gentleman's agreement" with Sancho and told him he would be allowed to leave the club this summer if another team met his valuation.
According to The Athletic, Sancho, a native of Camberwell, London, has already begun searching for a home in the Manchester area.
Sancho has done incredibly well with Dortmund over the years, scoring 50 goals in 137 appearances for the German side, helping them win the German Cup last season.
The 21-year-old is currently with the England squad at the European Championship and is preparing for a quarter-final clash against Ukraine on Saturday night in Rome.
As for what's next for United, the club reportedly remains interested in Real Madrid center back Raphael Varane and Atletico Madrid right back Kieran Trippier.
Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said at the end of the season that the club needed signings if it is to close the gap on Manchester City and fight for a title next season. So far, United is well on its way to meeting Solskjaer's request.
