Manchester United are looking to hit new heights under Michael Carrick given the former midfielder – who is in charge of the Red Devils until the summer – has his men firing on all cylinders.
Before his solitary defeat, a 2-1 loss to Newcastle United recently, Carrick was unbeaten ever since replacing Ruben Amorim at helm of Old Trafford.
Life is definitely looking much sweeter under Carrick compared to the bleakness of the 14-month Amorim era but whoever becomes the Portuguese’s permanent successor will be keen to add new faces to the squad.
Sandro Tonali of Newcastle United is reportedly of interest to United higher-ups as they plan for the departure of Casemiro.
After years of big hits and misses in the transfer department, it’s clear that INEOS have shifted the club’s recruitment focus to Premier League-proven talent.
Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo are two perfect examples of the transfer shift paying dividends – and Tonali, in the event he moves from Newcastle to United, would join that esteemed club.
Adding another left-winger to the squad is also on the club’s radar, especially if Champions League football is secured come May.
In terms of strengthening their back line, Tottenham Hotspur’s Micky van de Ven is among those who has mooted with a move to United.
According to the Daily Mail, who have detailed whether they believe Tottenham stars will stay or leave in the event of being relegated, United have been ‘alerted’ to the Dutchman’s availability.
“Rumours have been building that he will look to leave this summer as Manchester United and Liverpool have been alerted,” journalist Simon Jones wrote.
While Jones declared there have been discussions between 24-year-old Van de Ven and his employers over fresh talks, he understands they are on currently hold amid the club’s struggles.
As a result, the Spurs hierarchy are of the impression that he may leave if dropping down to England’s second tier comes to fruition.
The speedster would hitch a hefty fee mind and United would need to fend off competition from their arch-rivals, Liverpool, if they were to sign the 17-cap Netherlands international.
“Undoubted talent but has shown signs of frailty with his decision making. Talks over a new contract are on hold as reality kicks in. Tottenham would demand a huge fee but the Netherlands centre back is set for the exit,” Jones concluded in his report.
A solitary point clear of the relegation zone, the idea of Igor Tudor’s Spurs heading down to the Championship is no longer out of the question – and players will inevitably leave as a result.
Lightning-quick, Van de Ven moved to the white half of north London in the summer of 2023 from Bundesliga outfit Wolfsburg.
Since, he’s played 86 times for Spurs and established himself as one of the most exciting – primarily due to his raw pace – defenders in England’s top flight.
Signing a player of Van de Ven’s ilk, especially as he is still 24 years of age, would be a wise addition given that Harry Maguire’s future is in doubt and Leny Yoro, at times, has looked uncomfortable.
