Douglas Luiz is anxious to leave Juventus, and Manchester United, with other Premier League clubs, remain interested

Douglas Luiz is once again being strongly linked with Manchester United and Tottenham. The Brazilian, now at Juventus, is beginning to feel that his spell in Turin is not going as he had hoped. TBR Football confirms that Luiz wants to return to the Premier League and believes that his style of play would be better suited there. Aston Villa, his former club, do not seem in a position to make another move for him, but the competition is fierce. Everton, Fulham, Nottingham Forest and West Ham have sounded out the possibility of signing him, while Saudi Arabia and Turkey are also keeping an eye on him. However, Douglas is clear about his priority, and that is to return to England.

Manchester United remain alert to any option that would strengthen their midfield with a player who possesses muscle and attacking prowess. According to Graeme Bailey via TBR Football, the Red Devils have already spoken to Juventus about Douglas Luiz during talks that included other names such as Jadon Sancho.

Luiz’s goal-scoring record with Aston Villa, nine goals in his last season there, something that few midfielders achieve in the Premier League, plays in his favour. In addition, Juventus would be open to negotiating a permanent transfer or even a loan if it is structured well. The option of including Sancho in a swap adds a twist to this deal.

From our point of view, if United want to break this deadlock, they must move quickly and decisively. Juventus need to sell and may accept creative formulas, but they will not wait forever. Sancho, who is becoming increasingly marginalised, could serve as a bargaining chip if Amorim decides to dispense with a player who does not fit in. The problem is that Sancho’s price tag is high, and his recent performance does not help to inflate his value.

Douglas Luiz, for his part, offers a “box to box” style with attacking threat, good vertical passing and a competitive character. The 27-year-old has the advantage of experience in England and the versatility to play as a more positional central midfielder or dynamic inside midfielder. The downside is his inconsistency at times and the fact that he is coming off a season at Juventus where he did not quite settle in.

If he does end up coming, he could be the pure “six” who balances Bruno Fernandes and Mainoo in that midfield triangle. Amorim is looking for a central midfielder with range and good passing ability to accelerate possession, and Luiz could do that, but he will need to adapt quickly to a demanding system that presses after losing the ball. A swap with Sancho would solve one problem and free up salary space. The dilemma is whether Douglas will be stable enough to hold down a midfield that has been without a firm leader for years. United need certainties, not more promises that fade away when the pressure mounts.
