Manchester United are in direct talks with Nigerian striker

The Red Devils are in dire need of a striker for next season, and have been linked to some big names.

Manchester United have struggled greatly with goals this 2024/25 season. The team have struggled to create clear-cut chances, and the forward line hasn’t responded. Rasmus Højlund hasn’t been consistent, while the midfielders haven’t contributed much in attack either. Some matches ended without a shot on target. The lack of ideas and sharpness in the final third have frustrated the fans and made the coach concerned. So, it is quite clear that United are in need of a world-class striker.

TEAMtalk has reported that Manchester United have begun talks with Victor Osimhen to convince him to move to Old Trafford. The Nigerian striker is on loan at Galatasaray from Napoli, and his release clause is €75 million. Ruben Amorim, the Red Devils’ manager, wants to strengthen his attack this summer. Osimhen appears to be a clear option. However, the signing would depend on the club achieving Champions League qualification. Galatasaray have not confirmed anything, but their president briefly responded to the rumors. Meanwhile, Hojlund and Zirkzee have not been convincing as attacking figures. The club are looking to fix the issue in the summer.

TuttoJuve also reported that Manchester United have already begun talks with Victor Osimhen. They see him as a very important player to strengthen their attack next season. Juventus are also closely monitoring him, but the English club have acted more decisively. Osimhen has shone for Galatasaray, with 33 goals and eight assists in 37 matches. José Mourinho publicly praised him, and Daniel Ogunmodede even called him the best striker in the world. Napoli no longer counts on him, and Antonio Conte will not oppose his departure. Now, the Neapolitan club leads Serie A by a narrow margin with three matches remaining.

Galatasaray president Ozbek commented this week that many people in Turkey were asking him the same question about Osimhen’s future. He noted that the team is focusing on the final stretch of the season and that it is not the time to think about signings. He also said there were still five matches left and that his goal was to win every one to please the fans. He clarified that decisions regarding departures or additions would be made later. The President stated that for now, the club had no planned transfers.

“85 million people in Turkiye come to me with the same question. We are in a race right now, the race in football is not over. Transfers are at the beginning of June. Nobody should think about who to buy or sell. We are focused on the field. We have 5 matches ahead of us. We are working to win all 5 matches and make our fans happy. There is no transfer on our agenda right now. We will share our thoughts when the time comes.”

Victor Osimhen would fit well into Rubén Amorim’s system. His direct style, speed, and ability to attack spaces would help give the attack more verticality. Amorim often uses a formation that constantly moves forward, and Osimhen fits that profile. He would also contribute goals, something the team desperately need. Osimhen has instinct and presence in the box. However, his price is high and will depend on whether the club make it to the Champions League. If they don’t, his signing will be very difficult to complete. But tactically, the idea makes sense and would greatly improve the team.
