The Red Devils need to sign a quality striker in the summer to solve their goal-scoring woes.

Manchester United are going through another bumpy 2024/25 campaign. Despite some promising moments under Rúben Amorim, the team has yet to fully establish itself. There have been glimpses of an interesting project, with youngsters like Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo showing character, but overall performance has fallen short. Results have not lived up to expectations, and the team finds itself outside the Champions League spots. They can still qualify if they win the Europa League. Although they have celebrated important victories, such as the one against Manchester City, the draws and losses have ultimately outweighed them.

Manchester United are in the race to sign Bayer Leverkusen striker Patrick Schick

One of the biggest problems has been a lack of offensive force. Rasmus Højlund, with just four Premier League goals, has failed to assume the role of a consistent goalscorer. Joshua Zirkzee has also failed to take off in his first season in England. Both have room for improvement, but for now, they have not been a solution. Defensively, the team has shown some solidity at times, although occasional errors have proved costly. Implementing the 3-4-2-1 system, preferred by Amorim, remains a work in progress, and without a striker who can make a difference every week, everything becomes more complicated.

In this context, the name of Patrik Schick comes up, as reported by Caught Offside. The Czech forward has scored 30 goals this season between his club, Bayer Leverkusen, and the national team. His name has been linked with United, but also with Arsenal and Chelsea. Leverkusen would be willing to negotiate if an offer of between €30 and €40 million arrives. Although his contract expires in 2027, there is uncertainty about his continued presence in Germany. This has generated interest from several Premier League clubs. Competition will be fierce, but United could have much to gain by moving quickly.

Schick could fit perfectly into Amorim’s plan. He has the maturity, the goal-scoring instinct, and the tactical ability that would be a great fit for the team. Compared to Højlund and Zirkzee, the Czech offers a more reliable presence inside the box. In a system that favours verticality and space, Schick could act as the pure number nine that is so lacking at Old Trafford. If the club manages to secure his signing, they would not only improve in the short term but would also send a clear message: they want to compete with the big boys again. For a team with such a long history, that ambition can’t wait much longer.
