Manchester United have brought some encouragement to their season, after a 2-0 win against Manchester City in the Premier League over the weekend.

United stand just a point off fourth place Liverpool. There is hope that they can qualify for a place back in the UEFA Champions League.

This would be for the first time since they earned a place in the 2023/24 edition of the competition.

United suffered early defeats in both domestic competitions this season to Grimsby Town and Brighton and Hove Albion.

With no European football this season, this has seen their lowest total of games (40) since the 1914/15 season.

There have been some encouraging moments for Manchester United this season.

Most notably, there was the win against City, the 2-1 away win against Liverpool and the 2-1 home victory over Chelsea.

However, it has not just been the men’s team who have had something to shout about.

In the Women’s Super League, they have fallen out of form lately.

After failing to lose in each of their first seven games, United have only won once in their last five games.

This includes back-to-back defeats against Aston Villa and Man City.

Their most recent Women’s Super League games have resulted in two draws.

A 3-3 and 0-0 draw to Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal respectively means they have fallen down to fourth in the league table.

Despite this, Marc Skinner and his United side have had the ultimate confidence boost as they have reached the Women’s League Cup final.

Elisabeth Terland’s 11th goal in all competitions this season was enough to see United advance past a 10-man Arsenal in a 1-0 win.

Man United will now play current holders of the tournament Chelsea in the final, who beat Man City tonight.

Against the current powerhouse of Women’s Football in the UK, this will be a tough task for United.

Chelsea have six straight Women’s Super League titles to their name. This is as well as being the holders of the FA Cup as they completed a historic treble last season.
