Manchester United’s centre-back options have been plagued by injury for the second half of the 2025/26 season, with The Red Devils having to rely on talented youngster Leny Yoro.
Matthijs de Ligt has been ruled out since November 2025 with the longest time on the sidelines through injury of his career.
Having experienced an issue with his lower back, the former Netherlands international has suffered several setbacks with no clear return date in sight.
Alongside him Lisandro Martinez is once again on the sidelines after sustaining a calf injury against West Ham in February 2026.
Thankfully though, the Argentina international is back in training, joining the United squad on their training camp in Ireland, giving hope of an imminent return.
However, Carrington’s treatment room is now set to have a new resident as Tyler Fredricson was taken off against Real Madrid this evening with a suspected hamstring injury.
The 21-year-old was captain for the Under-21s side as they took on Real Madrid in the Premier League International Cup at Old Trafford.
However, after 52 minutes, Tyler Fredricson was replaced with Daniel Armer, one of the Under-18s, as reported by RedYouthUnited.
This injury is set to be a massive blow for the Under-21s, with Fredricson having already made his senior debut as the club’s 254th graduate from the academy.
However, it’s not the only set-back he’s had in his career already, showing he’s used to bouncing back.
Back in 2022 Fredricson was handed his first senior squad inclusion, joining the team on the bench for their Europa League clash with Real Sociedad on 8th September.
However, shortly after he suffered a significant injury, ruling him out for 16 to 18 months, returning in April 2024.
Fredricson bounced back and went on to earn the trust of Ruben Amorim who featured him four times, including having two Premier League starts.
As such, it’s unlikely this injury will set him back majorly, as the Under-21s captain has already shown he has the drive to get his momentum back.
