Manchester United are ready to battle Bayern Munich to sign AC Milan winger Rafael Leao during the summer transfer window. The Red Devils have stormed the transfer window by prioritising the attacking department, already securing the signing of Matheus Cunha.
However, Ruben Amorim needs a lot of firepower before the window shuts, keeping next season’s rejuvenation of United in mind. The whole Man United squad that Amorim inherited from Erik ten Hag failed to adjust to the new tactical demands.
However, the attacking department in particular has struggled with inconsistencies and poor contributions even before Amorim arrived at the club. The former Sporting CP boss let struggling wide players like Marcus Rashford and Antony leave during the January transfer window.
While Rashford, Antony and Jadon Sancho have returned to United from their respective loan deals, they have no future here. At the same time, Alejandro Garnacho’s future also remains uncertain after late-season off-field drama following the Europa League final loss.
According to Fichajes, Man United are ready to battle Bayern to sign Leao from Milan during the summer transfer window. The 25-year-old has gained a strong reputation for his one-on-one qualities as a winger and versatility to cover many positions.
While Leao prefers to play as a traditional left-winger, he can play in a narrower role as an attacking midfielder. The Portugal international made 50 appearances for Milan in all competitions last season, scoring 12 goals and providing 13 assists.
The price tag could act as an obstacle, as Milan wants nothing less than €100 million (£84.3m) for the Portuguese. Nevertheless, Leao could leave Milan after they finished eighth and missed out on the Champions League spot for next season.
United have to navigate their finances carefully, after already spending a significant amount on the attacking department. They have other positions that needs recruitment or else the team could struggle from the balance of the squad.
