Manchester United complete signing of Liverpool midfielder

Manchester United have completed a deal to sign Liverpool midfielder Issac Konde.

Fabrizio Romano has broken the news on X, reporting that United have completed a move for the 16-year-old.

Romano states that all formal steps have been completed within the last 24 hours, giving the move his trademark “here we go”.

The highly-rated midfielder will now swap Liverpool for Manchester United as the Red Devils continue strengthening their academy with some of the brightest young talents available.

Konde’s arrival also continues a summer in which United have reshaped the midfield at several levels of the club.

At senior level, Michael Carrick has already been handed three major midfield additions, with Carlos Baleba completing a move alongside Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans.

Those deals were designed for the present. Konde is very much a move with the future in mind.

The teenager has developed inside Liverpool’s academy and was regarded as one of the promising players coming through their youth system.

That makes the move particularly eye-catching.

United and Liverpool share arguably the fiercest rivalry in English football, meaning players moving directly between the two clubs at any level will always attract attention.

United have placed considerable emphasis on recruiting emerging talent in recent years rather than waiting for prospects to establish themselves elsewhere.

The approach has seen the club look beyond simply strengthening Carrick’s first-team squad, with academy recruitment continuing even after the senior transfer window closed earlier this month.

Konde will now be given the opportunity to develop within United’s system and attempt to follow the pathway from academy football towards the senior side.

There is naturally a long road ahead for any player at just 16 years old.

However, convincing a talented midfielder to leave Liverpool represents another intriguing piece of business for United’s academy.
