Manchester United continue pursuit of Alex Scott

Manchester United’s summer has been somewhat disappointing so far for fans hoping to see a major midfield signing.

The Red Devils have highlighted their need to revitalise the position by setting a £150 million budget to sign three midfielder before the new season starts.

Already an agreement is in place for Ederson to move from Atalanta after the World Cup, in a deal worth £35 million.

However, this has been the club’s only signing so far, with no proven Premier League talent yet to arrive at Carrington.

Frustratingly for United fans this comes as the Red Devils have been beaten to key targets like Mateus Fernandes, Sandro Tonali and Elliot Anderson.

All of them would have brought key Premier League experience to the side where United have already lost Casemiro who has been vital this year.

Now, The Sun has reported that United are still keen to bring in Premier League experience, with Bournemouth’s Alex Scott still high up on their shortlist.

Manchester United not put off by Alex Scott price tag

It recently emerged that Scott has rejected an offer for a contract extension at Bournemouth, giving United a boost in their potential pursuit.

Despite having an £80 million price tag on him, United are understood to still be open to a move for him.

The valuation comes as this summer has already seen some incredibly high sales, with Elliot Anderson’s move to Manchester City having broken the British transfer record at £130 million.

Alongside this, Tottenham’s £100 million signing of Tonali and £85 million signing of recently relegated Fernandes has set a bar on midfield valuations.

Where United missed out on these players, refusing to enter into bidding wars, it seems they are now accepting that a premium fee may have to be paid to bring in the right talent.
