Manchester United demand stands against £40m English star’s dream

Barcelona want Marcus Rashford in a season-long loan deal, but Manchester United want a permanent sale of the English forward. Man United have decided to sell their surplus after facing a lot of financial pressure due to unruly wage expenses.

The Red Devils have many unwanted players in lucrative contracts, but have failed to deliver according to the club’s expectations. Rashford signed a massive new contract in the summer of 2023 after enjoying a prolific 2022-23 season with the club.

While many fans believed that the 27-year-old has outgrown his inconsistent youth years, Rashford’s problems immediately resurfaced, causing big disappointment. As Ruben Amorim succeeded Erik ten Hag, his relationship with Rashford immediately deteriorated, leading to his departure to Aston Villa.

Villa signed Rashford in a loan deal during the January transfer window, and the Englishman immediately displayed resurgence in form. However, the loan spell ended with Rashford’s injury, but the England international’s status at United remains the same under Amorim.

We All Follow United recently covered how Man United offered Rashford to Real Madrid amid Barcelona’s chase of Nico Williams. According to The Times, United want £40m for Rashford, while Barcelona are only willing to do a season-long loan deal.

The Catalan giants have many attacking options, with Williams becoming another potential addition to their high-quality squad for next season. Barcelona see Rashford as a backup to Robert Lewandowski, as his preferred left-wing position is preoccupied by other big stars.

Despite interest from several other clubs, there is a recurring theme of Rashford’s suitors struggling to meet both £325,000kpw wages and £40m price tag. Even if the 27-year-old takes a pay cut, the media portrayal of his behaviour and inconsistencies remains a big risk.

There is a potential that United might have to find a bigger compromise to get rid of Rashford’s wages permanently from their budget. Rest assured, the Red Devils cannot waste too much time negotiating a deal for their surplus amid the need to strengthen their squad according to Amorim’s requirements.
