Bryan Mbeumo might finally be closing in on a move to Manchester United

Summer brings questions, excitement and a touch of urgency for Manchester United, who cannot afford another setback. After a campaign that their own coach, Ruben Amorim, described as a complete disaster, the board know that every signing must bring goals, character and hunger. With INEOS at the helm, the club might not sign players just for the sake of it. They want players who fit into a project that needs identity and immediate results. The fans are hoping for a team with clear ideas and a committed dressing room, as Old Trafford has been asking for more than just promises for years.

In this situation, the news published by The Daily Mail suggests that United are very close to closing an important deal: Bryan Mbeumo could become their second major signing of the summer after the arrival of Matheus Cunha from Wolverhampton. Mbeumo has chosen Old Trafford despite interest from Newcastle and Tottenham, which gives Amorim some breathing space. Brentford, however, will not make it easy: they are demanding more than £65 million, almost double what they received for Ivan Toney. United have already had two offers rejected, the latest around £62.5 million, but are confident of sealing the deal before the squad returns to training on Monday.

Opinion:

Now, how much can the Cameroon player contribute to an attack that looked lacklustre last season? The Cameroonian scored 20 goals for Brentford and showed key versatility: he breaks lines, plays inside or wide, offers diagonal runs and doesn’t shy away when the going gets tough. For a team that suffered from a lack of punch, the 25-year-old’s signing would provide breathing space and solutions.

More Manchester United:

The price, however, is high. Spending more than £65 million on a player with no Champions League experience is a risk, especially when INEOS promised to spend wisely. But sometimes, paying over the odds is preferable to watching direct rivals strengthen. His decision to choose Old Trafford over other clubs says a lot about his desire.

This rubs off on the dressing room and boosts the morale of a group that needs hungry role models. Is it worth it? If he repeats his numbers and fits in quickly, yes. And after that? United cannot stop here. The defence needs hierarchy, the midfield needs balance, and the entire squad demands internal competitiveness. Mbeumo is a step forward, but not the complete cure. If INEOS wants to return the club to the elite, every move must respond to a clear idea, and that is goals, leadership and a plan that can withstand any setback. Only then will the string of failures come to an end.
