Manchester United enquire about move for Santiago Beltran

Manchester United’s goalkeeping department has undergone a near-total overhaul since the turn of last year.

Senne Lammens arrived from Royal Antwerp last year, tasked with establishing himself as the club’s long-term No.1 after United moved on from both Andre Onana and Altay Bayindir.

Onana’s turbulent spell between the posts eventually ended with another season-long loan to Trabzonspor, while Bayindir also left on loan, joining Celta Vigo after failing to nail down a regular starting role.

Karl Darlow was brought in as a free agent from Leeds to provide senior cover, though his own United debut in the Carabao Cup defeat to Brighton did little to settle nerves, with a hesitant moment off his line contributing to United’s collapse from 2-0 up.

United also missed out on Xabier Mancisidor, the vastly experienced goalkeeping coach who turned down the club this summer to join Juanma Lillo’s staff with Mexico instead.

Amid that ongoing reshuffle, United are now asking about a completely different name in South America.

Manchester United are asking about River Plate goalkeeper Santiago Beltran.

Journalist Gustavo Yarroch reported on ESPN Argentina that United’s interest goes beyond simply having Santiago Beltran on a scouting list.

River Plate are currently in talks with the 21-year-old over extending his contract, which runs until December 2027, and those discussions are said to be going well.

That doesn’t necessarily mean River expect him to stay much longer regardless, with Inter Milan joining United in making an enquiry for the goalkeeper.

Beltran has become a regular starter for River Plate this year, with him making 24 league appearances and 23 starts, alongside seven outings in the Copa Sudamericana.

His senior Argentina debut came in a 2-0 win over Honduras on 6 June 2026, with that being his only senior cap so far, having previously been involved with the national setup purely as a training sparring player rather than an established international.

United’s interest suggests the club may be looking beyond Darlow for a long-term goalkeeping pipeline, even with the current pairing still relatively fresh at Old Trafford.

Whether any move for Beltran progresses is likely to depend heavily on how River’s contract talks with their own goalkeeper unfold in the coming months.
