Manchester United are taking a step away from their midfield recruitment drive as they turn their attention to West Ham United’s Crysencio Summerville.
Over the last few days, Tottenham Hotspur have beaten The Red Devils to both Sandro Tonali and Mateus Fernandes as Roberto de Zerbi is showing he means business in his new role.
However, United are now understood to be keeping their focus on The Hammers despite missing out on Fernandes, instead looking to Summerville as a potential attacking reinforcement.
Speaking on talkSPORT, Ben Jacobs explained: “My information is even though Manchester United are prioritising the centre of the park, and the left side is somewhat contingent on Marcus Rashford’s future, talks are now underway directly between West Ham United and Manchester United for Crescencio Somerville, who’s just getting back from the World Cup.”
He continued: “And don’t forget too, Tottenham have looked at him in the past as well. Their [Spurs’] primary focus is Savinho. Let’s see whether the Manchester City board choose to sanction that deal or not.”
United have been understood to have looked to the Netherlands international at the start of the summer, with Michael Carrick wanting another option to rotate with Matheus Cunha on the left wing.
At the time, Marcus Rashford looked set to stay at Barcelona, however, the LaLiga champions’ £70 million signing of Anthony Gordon ended that potential, seeing Rashford return to Old Trafford.
However, it seems that despite the return of Rashford, United are still keen to explore their potential options, with Crysencio Summerville having shone at the World Cup so far.
Unfortunately though, this could work against United, with The Red Devils already seen to be unwilling to enter into bidding wars, and as such, if other clubs come knocking, United could lose out once more.
