Manchester United are ready to battle Arsenal to reunite Sporting CP’s prolific attacker Viktor Gyokeres with Ruben Amorim this summer. The Red Devils have prioritised the attacking department at the start of the summer transfer window to kickstart their project.

United suffered immensely during the first few months under Amorim due to the senior team’s inability to adapt to tactics. The Red Devils finished 16th in the Premier League and lost the Europa League final, summing up their disastrous campaign.

The Manchester giant cannot afford a repeat of last season’s misery and finish in such an embarrassing Premier League position. The Red Devils’ immense stature demands that they compete for all the major trophies, instead of persistently struggling for relevancy.

United are planning a squad overhaul, despite the budget limitations due to financial issues that they are facing this summer. The Red Devils will raise their transfer funds by selling players who are surplus to their requirements at the club.

Meanwhile, the attack has struggled to produce good even before Amorim joined, as Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee failed consistently. The two number nines have failed to establish themselves as the first-team regular under Amorim, despite earning numerous starting opportunities.

According to Fichajes, Man United will battle Arsenal to sign Gyokeres from Sporting CP to help him reunite with Amorim. Under Amorim’s mentorship, Gyokeres enjoyed a steep rise at the Portuguese club, becoming one of the most lethal number nines.

We recently covered that Sporting Lisbon are now demanding a £84m transfer fee, which is Gyokeres’ release clause. The situation is tricky for United as they have already signed Matheus Cunha and are closing in on Bryan Mbeumo this summer.

If Mbeumo is signed by United, they will lose more than £120m to sign two players without selling a single surplus for the club yet. Nevertheless, Gyokeres’ prolific history speaks for itself, and adding him could fix the attacking department for years to come.
