Manchester United fire manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer after emergency meeting

It's been a month since Manchester United got a win, but perhaps no result was more embarrassing over the slump than the team's 4-1 loss to Watford on Saturday. It has ended up being Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's last match as the team's manager, as The Athletic's Luke Brown and Brad Cox report that he has been sacked.

Earlier in the day, the London Times reported that the club called an emergency board meeting to discuss Solskjaer's future. It appears that meeting resulted in the decision to part ways with the embattled manager.

Solskjaer, 48, became Man U's caretaker manager in 2018 following the dismissal of Jose Mourinho. Three months later, he was promoted to become the club's permanent manager.

Since the beginning of UEFA Champions League play in September, Manchester United have won just four its last 13, including a 5-0 loss to Liverpool and 2-0 loss to Manchester City.

“I believe we can turn this around,” Solskjaer said after the Saturday loss against Watford, via The Athletic. “I feel very low. We're just not finding our form. We've corrected a few things; we've put a few things right. We've of course made sure that we've prioritized a couple of things that needed to improve the most, and I'm sure we'll see a good reaction and good team performance tomorrow.”

According to the Times report, Manchester United are hoping to persuade Zinedine Zidane to take over as manager midseason and have increased its offer to the former Real Madrid manager.
