Manchester United have shown real signs of improvement over the last few weeks, as Ruben Amorim has made huge strides to save his job and reward the immense amount of faith that owner Jim Ratcliffe is showing in him.
Amorim was somehow sinking Manchester United to lower lows in the table than what Erik ten Hag was doing, but with the upgrades up front clicking, the Red Devils actually look like a solid team.
Now, though, Man United need to move forward with a focus on upgrading some key remaining weaknesess in the side, specifically those in the middle of the park.
Manchester United are fully expected to pursue multiple midfield upgrades in the 2026 transfer windows, and according to a report from the Daily Mail’s Chris Wheeler and Nathan Salt, the Red Devils are going to be prioritizing the defensive midfield in summer 2026.
Per the Daily Mail, in addition to dream targets Adam Wharton, Carlos Baleba, and Elliot Anderson, Manchester United are also looking at one of the Premier League’s most intriguing pure No. 6’s in Wolves standout Joao Gomes.
While Gomes isn’t on the level of a Wharton or Baleba, he is a very good ball winner and defensive presence, and with Casemiro potentially not staying due to his high wages, he could make sense as a replacement for his fellow Brazilian.
