At Old Trafford, patience runs out when a big-name player fails to deliver. Manchester United have been burdened for too long with decisions that don’t pay off on the pitch. Fans are wary of players who arrive as stars but fail to live up to half of what was promised. Jadon Sancho is the most recent example of this feeling of frustration. His arrival sparked excitement, and now his departure seems inevitable. Under Ruben Amorim, the club are seeking to redefine their identity and to do so, they need to part with players who no longer fit in. Every move in the transfer market matters because the margin for error is minimal.
According to Sky Sports journalist Dharmesh Sheth, Manchester United have already held positive talks with Juventus to finalise the 25-year-old’s departure. The Italian club are pushing to sign the English winger, and everyone is keen to close the deal soon. What is still unclear is whether it will be a loan or a permanent transfer.
The Red Devils would prefer to recoup part of their investment with a sale for around £25 million. However, Sancho’s salary could hinder the deal. The footballer, once described as “world class”, no longer has a place in Amorim’s team, and his departure is a matter of weeks away. United want to get rid of the problem, and Juventus are looking to give him a new opportunity away from the Premier League.
In our opinion, Manchester United should prioritise a permanent sale to nip a relationship that has no future in the bud. Keeping him on loan would mean continuing to pay part of his salary, which would further affect the club’s finances. While £25 million may seem like a small amount, the reality is that Sancho has shown almost none of the promise he showed when he arrived from Dortmund.
Juventus could be a good destination for him: another country, another environment and a style of play that might bring out the best in his football. Amorim needs salary space and players who fit his tactical vision. Getting rid of a player who is disconnected from the project will give the dressing room a breath of fresh air and allow investment in more committed players.
Of course, his departure leaves a gap on the wing that someone will have to fill. The Portuguese coach cannot improvise too much because he knows that his room for manoeuvre is limited. We think Sancho has the quality to shine in Italy, but he must be truly committed. His time in England makes it clear that talent without attitude fades away.
The best thing for all parties is for the agreement to be permanent. If the salary is an issue, perhaps a loan with an obligation to buy could be agreed. But if Juventus push hard, they will close the deal. Sancho needs to start from scratch, and United need to forget this failed gamble. Sometimes, cutting your losses is the only sensible option. Earlier, we all follow United reported that Juventus proposed a triple-player offer to Manchester United in an ambitious swap deal.
