Manchester United hold talks with two managers as potential Ten Hag replacement

Erik ten Hag’s future at Manchester United remains up in the air despite the Dutchman lifting the FA Cup earlier this weekend when his side beat Manchester City in the final at Wembley.

Ten Hag’s men were the superior side and finally got their redemption from last year’s final, with goals from Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo securing silverware in back-to-back seasons. Garnacho and Mainoo became the first teenage duo to score in an FA Cup final.

In the week leading up to the final, rumours surrounding Ten Hag’s ramped up and there were even suggestions that United had already decided to sack the former Ajax manager.

It does not seem like that is the case but there are interesting reports on Sunday afternoon, with claims now saying United have approached two managers over a role that could be vacant soon.

First, The Athletic journalist Laurie Whitwell has claimed that although nothing was set in stone, sources did indicate that Ten Hag’s time was up at United.

“We did get strong information that the expectation was that he [Ten Hag] would depart the club. But we felt that we had to make checks and we were told the final decision has not been made yet,” Whitwell told the Talk of the Devils Podcast.

According to the Telegraph, no decision has been made on Ten Hag’s future yet and that will only come after the club’s performance review has been completed, with INEOS and Sir Jim Ratcliffe set to spearhead that inspection next week.

As per the report, due diligence has been carried out in the case of a managerial departure, with Brentford manager Thomas Frank and former Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino earmarked as possible replacements.

As per the report, it stretches even further than just reported interest, with it even being claimed that United have held talks with their representatives.

Thomas Tuchel and Kieran McKenna are also mentioned, with United said to be keeping those options in mind and not ruling anything out.
