Yan Diomande remains one of the most highly rated young wingers in European football.

Manchester United have tracked the RB Leipzig forward for several months and continue to monitor his situation ahead of the new season.

The Red Devils have prioritised rebuilding Michael Carrick’s midfield this summer.

They have already signed Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans, but the club are still exploring additions in other areas of the squad.

United’s interest in Diomande is nothing new.

In December 2025, it was reported that the Ivory Coast international had been identified as an alternative to Antoine Semenyo.

United were considering Diomande in case they failed to complete a deal for the Bournemouth forward.

Since then, the 19-year-old has continued to enhance his reputation.

He enjoyed an outstanding breakthrough campaign in Germany, scoring 13 goals and providing 9 assists across 36 appearances for Leipzig.

Diomande also represented Ivory Coast at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, providing one assist in four appearances before Norway eliminated his country in the Round of 32.

Manchester United believe they lead Yan Diomande race

According to German outlet BILD, Manchester United believe they are now in “pole position” to sign Diomande.

However, Liverpool, Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City remain confident that they can win the race for his signature.

Liverpool are the only club to have submitted a formal offer so far.

RB Leipzig rejected their proposal, which was worth £68 million plus a potential £17 million in add-ons.

The German club want more than £100 million before they will consider selling the winger.

That valuation has prevented Diomande’s suitors from reaching an agreement.

Manchester United previously viewed the asking price as too high.

Earlier this summer, Fabrizio Romano reported that the club told people close to Diomande they would not pay €100 million for him.

United intended to make midfield their main area of investment instead.

Despite that stance, the club’s admiration for Diomande has not disappeared.

BILD now claim United feel they are well placed if Leipzig reduce their demands or the transfer situation changes.

There are still several obstacles to overcome.

It was previously reported that Diomande preferred Paris Saint-Germain’s long-term project, while Liverpool and Manchester City remain firmly interested.

Leipzig are also trying to convince the teenager to sign an improved contract.

United’s confidence does not mean a move is close.

However, Carrick’s side continue to regard Diomande as one of Europe’s most exciting young attackers and could act if the financial conditions become more favourable.
