Atalanta star Teun Koopmeiners has been linked with a move to the Premier League, with one club being Manchester United.

Reporters in question could be looking at the Dutch connection with Erik ten Hag, plus the fact he’s had a brilliant season under Gian Piero Gasperini in a Europa League-winning Atalanta side.

Atalanta won the final 3-0 against Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen, a side that had gone the entire season unbeaten before the final.

The 26-year-old has spoken about his future in the aftermath of their stunning Europa League win in Dublin on Wednesday night.

Asked if he will be playing in the Champions League at Atalanta next season, the Dutch midfielder said (H/t Manchester Evening News): “Let’s see, let’s see.”

Koopmeiners was vague in response, perhaps out of respect for Atalanta, on a night to be enjoyed. Only headline-hungry reporters desperate enough to put a transfer spin on a story that should focus on a football club winning its first-ever major trophy, and just a second in their history – after the Coppa Italia in 1963.

Reports suggest that Atalanta may wave a £50 million price tag on Koopmeiners, who has also been linked with a switch to Chelsea this summer.

It remains to be seen if United are serious about their interest in the player. Only time will tell when INEOS draw up their list of top targets. We’ll see when they start making formal offers.
