Manchester United manager officially confirms January transfer plans

Manchester United’s summer transfer window ended with plenty of frustration despite the club making significant progress in midfield.

Michael Carrick was handed three major additions in Andrey Santos, Youri Tielemans and Carlos Baleba, completely changing the options available in the middle of the pitch.

Baleba was the final piece of that midfield rebuild after a lengthy pursuit.

However, United failed to solve another area that had been identified as a priority.

A new left-back was considered throughout the summer, with Lewis Hall, Alejandro Balde and Myles Lewis-Skelly among the names linked with Old Trafford.

United even made a late attempt to bring in Rayan Ait-Nouri from Manchester City, but the proposed deal did not materialise before the deadline.

That left supporters disappointed, particularly given Luke Shaw’s injury history and the lack of another established specialist option on the left.

United are already expected to revisit the position in future windows.

Now a Manchester United manager has officially confirmed that transfer planning is already underway for January.

The comments came from Manchester United Women’s head coach Eva Olid, who was speaking during her first press conference ahead of the new WSL season.

Asked whether United could complete any more business before the women’s deadline, Olid told the club’s official website: “No, but we have plans for January.”

Olid later expanded on exactly why United are already looking ahead.

The Spaniard explained that her arrival changed the type of player required because her style differs from that of the previous manager, leaving recruitment staff with limited time to react during the summer window.

Rather than rushing into deals, Olid said United want players specifically suited to her attacking model.

“We have some plans in January to sign players that I really need for my style of play and model game,” she explained, adding that the extra time should allow United to identify the correct profiles.

United have already strengthened Olid’s squad with several additions, including Mexico captain Rebeca Bernal, but her comments make clear that the rebuild is not considered complete.
