Manchester United have a long history of players who have donated generously to charity.

For instance, in recent years we’ve seen Marcus Rashford work and donate to support children facing food poverty and has continued his charitable actions during his loan spell at Barcelona.

Rashford’s charity work has largely focused on tackling child food poverty and improving access to education.

But this time, someone else has come to the limelight for their generosity.

According to OnePercentFC on X (previously known as Twitter), a Manchester United midfielder has donated one per cent of their annual salary to charity, continuing a personal commitment to supporting children’s access to football.

The donation from Manchester United women and Japan international Hinata Miyazawa will be used to fund activities aimed at improving the “environment” for youngsters who want to play the sport but are unable to do so due to financial difficulties or other limiting factors, as per OnePercentFC.

Miyazawa, who recently signed a three year contract extension with the Red Devils, has been well known for both her work rate and intelligence in midfield since joining the club.

This season, she scored a memorable goal to help defeat Liverpool to showcase her importance in the side.

Aside from technical footballing ability, Hinata Miyazawa is also known for her professionalism away from the pitch.

Her decision to donate a portion of her salary reflects a wider awareness among players of the influence they can have beyond matchdays, particularly when it comes to addressing barriers at grassroots level.

As the women’s game continues to grow globally, accessibility remains a key challenge, with financial constraints still preventing many children from participating in organised football.

The Japanese midfielder’s ongoing commitment underlines how long-term support, rather than short-term initiatives, can play an important role in making the sport more inclusive.
